Augmented reality can be really fascinating. But what happens if you combine a calendar with an App and 24 tiny doors to open till Christmas? Yes, the thing is getting even more interesting. I’ve found this pretty well designed (notice the iPad-like design of the calendar) Windel Advent calendar in my favorite supermarket. Each day when you open one door, you will not only get a chocolate but also a small animation with a Santa Claus when you scan the pattern on the door. Funny, isn’t it?
Technically the application is built upon Unity and uses the Vuforia SDK to display the 3D animation and the happy Santa Claus. A really nice product I must say! The application is available for Android and iOS devices and was developed by the German webagency (DieEtagen) http://www.die-etagen.de/
Here are some pics of this very special Advent calendar:

A nice iPad-look-a-like design

Close up of the calendar. Still a few days until Christmas Eve 😉

Sticker explaining how augmented reality should work with this calendar. Pretty uncomplicated 😉

Santa Claus is carrying a big bag, and if you want to know what’s in it, then you must watch him very carefully!
